birdproofing

Does anybody have any recommendation for pigeon proofing a brownstone?  I don’t want to put on spikes because they just ruin the look of a the building.  We were planning to use a company that installs alternatives (Birdmaster) but they have been a nightmare to work with and I’d rather not give them a dime.  Has anyone had things like the springs or electro-tape installed, and if so, by whom?  I’m not finding much online.
