Reinforcing a wood floor for lots of weight...
We were looking at a mixed use building (storefront on the ground and 2 apts above) which has a standard storefront- wood floor and wood beams supporting it. Our business deals with heavy wood material- we’re talking stacks of material which could weigh a ton. Obviously a concrete floor space is ideal- however, my question is if there is any way to reinforce a standard floor set-up in this situation to be able to handle a great deal more weight? Steel beam? Lally columns? Architects, engineers- we’d like to hear from you. Obviously we aren’t in possession of the space yet, but just imagine your standard brick building with wood floor supports- what could be done? Thanks for all opinions!

It would just depend upon the existing structural situation. You will need to open it up, hire a structural engineer and get something designed.
