Any market for a 3 year old boiler?

Hi guys, I had the 60+ year old Weil McClain boiler in my 3 family house replaced in December 2008\. Turns out that the new boiler is way too big for my house, causing frequent short-cycling and major uneven heat distribution problems, and I’ve had two heating experts tell me that the only thing to do here is to get rid of it and replace it with an appropriately sized boiler.

The boiler in question is Burnham Independence, and I can provide specs/pictures/other details if there’s any interest. The question is whether there’s a market out there – is anyone going to want it? I don’t care much how much I get for it – anything would be fine, considering I’m paying to install a new boiler out of pocket twice in 3 years. Or should I just eat my losses and have it carted off and scrapped by the company that’s installing the new boiler?

And by the way, stay the hell away from James Bealon, also known as “EZ”, of EZ Runer Construction. He didn’t do a connected load calculation when he spec’d the new boiler, resulting in the installation of a boiler that throws off way too much steam for my system to handle. He also installed it wrong, failing to include NYC mandated safety devices, and it’s caused me 3 years of hell – and is now, predictably, refusing to fix it.

Hey, if that thing was smaller I would buy it and install it in my own house myself.  I doubt many people would do that themselves and I think it will be hard to find a licensed plumber to install something used in someone’s house as if something goes wrong, like seriously wrong – he may be on the hook.  Try craigslist, even if you get $300 for it and have it taken away, it is better than scrapping it.

I’d advertise on craigslist too. Much nicer for it to have a new life than to be turned into scrap. I remember a poster here some months back looking for a boiler she was going to install herself (not many people have that skill set, but it’s a big city out there). Maybe Dept Of Sanitation has a program or suggestion… worth a look online or phone call.
