Spalling brick - OK to brownstone over it?
We have spalling brick in most of the under stoop entryway because the previous owner had painted the brick with oil paint. We have removed the paint but the brick is still dusting a little. The spalling has effected the outer 1/4 inch of the bricks in the worst areas.. We were thinking that we could have the area covered over in concrete/brownstone mix that is used to repair brownstone to prevent further spalling and contain dust. Is there a reason not to do it this way? Any other suggested solutions? Thanks for any advice that you can offer!

You can absolutely repave the area underneath the stoop with concrete. We have done that in many of our projects. However, you have to ensure that all dust is removed and cleaned before applying cement mix. Apply slurry coat so concrete/brownstone mix will adhere to the brick.
