Repointing Brick in Basement

We want to have someone come and look at the brick in our basement (it is a frame house), which we’ve been told will need to be repointed at some point. I’ve taken to heart the advice on here to get someone who knows how to work with old bricks–but who? Some of the bigger firms that people mentioned seem like WAAAY overkill for the inside walls of our basement. But I didn’t really see any recommendations that seemed legit for a smaller project (vs. restoration of whole facades). Anyone have any suggestions? Also, if the bricks are painted do you need to strip the paint off first before repointing? Thanks.
