For standard (edison base, shaped like an incandescent bulb) LED bulbs, the best deals are at IKEA.

Before you complain about the costs of LED bulbs, you need to consider life-span, because if you purchase reputable brands then you won’t have to replace them for a long time (maybe ever) and that equals a significant cost savings.

A follow-up to my previous response. My contractor ended up getting the housings for the recessed lights and the LED bulbs from his electric guy, but here’s a link to the type of LED replacement bulb we got (though not from 1000bulbs): https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/116594/USHIO-1003924.html

I recently scoured the Forum for lighting info and compiled a Word doc with all that I found. I can email it to you if you provide your email address. It includes info on undercabinet lighting as well. What we ended up doing with our recessed lighting, since the LED fixtures are prohibitively expensive, was to use fixtures in which you can use LED bulbs. The bulbs will save a lot of money in the long run even though they’re expensive. Supposedly, they’ll last at least 10 years and like I said the energy cost is minimal.

Bulbs.com is a good source. They have good discounts when you buy in bulk, and they are helpful answering questions.

Does anyone have a good online recommendation for buying LEDs? Or will all be similar quality/cost to the brick and mortar stores (ex/ Home Depot)?

Do light fixtures with regular Edison-base sockets, which can take LED, CF, or incandescent bulbs, meet these new standards?

I think the LED bulbs provide a much nicer light than fluorescents. Had pretty good luck with the ones we have – still going after 3 years of use.

It would depend upon when it was filed, but if it was from before the end of the year then 50% of the bulbs must be LED or Fluorescent.
