Keyless Locks
I’m thinking of installing a keyless lock on my apartment (condo) door, either a mechanical or electronic version. Has anyone done this, and if so, do you have any recommendations for locks, and for local locksmiths to do the installation? Thanks!

The biggest concern with mechanical locks is that over time the buttons will wear down and reveal your combo to the world. With electric locks the trouble is securing the door. If you use an electric strike, you can’t use a deadbolt. If you use a magnetic lock or electric strike you eliminate free egress and this can become a hazard in a fire.

I have installed the Simplex brand push button combo locks on both metal and wood doors. I am a contractor but am also a licensed locksmith doing mostly door restoration (as as a result lock installations). If you would like to talk to me about sourcing and installing these, feel free to look at my website and give me a call. Steve
