How to change this light bulb
http://cdn.brownstoner.com/4fd811b232f01-.jpg
I know this is a very silly question, but I don’t know who else to ask. I just moved into this house and the light bulb in my bathroom blew out. I don’t know how to change this bulb. How do I remove the outer plastic rim? Do I just tug at it until it comes off? Does it twist off? I’m worried that if I take it apart incorrectly, I won’t be able to put it back on. And will the center part fall down after the plastic rim comes off? Thanks in advance for answering this silly question.

Smash the glass of the lightbulb with a blunt object. Remove remainder with the flat side of a halved potato. Install new bulb, enjoy the other half of the potato anyway you like it.

Here’s a Plan B, in case tinker’s solution doesn’t work. We have a light that is similar in design to the picture (though not identical). For ours, you kind of push up directly on the glass in the center and then turn it — kind of like a backwards childproof bottle of medicine. Good luck.

Ha, thanks for asking–and answering–this question! We have a similar fixture above our tub that was put in during our bath reno 3 years ago, and I’ve found myself wondering what I will do when the bulb goes out. I figured I’d have to post on Brownstoner. : )

use your fingernails and pull down on the outter rim. the lens housing will come down and should be held in place by two pair of fine spring steel. The lens should come down about 8″ and then stop, do not pull it any more as you will dislodge the spring steel and it will all become a pain in the neck. when you are done, push it straight up. Steve
