Paint Stripping

I am looking for recommendations for a paint stripper. Specifically, I want to get the cast iron railing and newel posts in front of my home stripped. Thanks.

This is a project for the warm season, so you can paint immediately, and the paint will dry, so the cast iron will not rust.

We did this last year and while it was work, it wasn’t terrible.  Just tedious, but the results were the best reward.  And it was the best way to get to know our Bed/Stuy neighbors.  Everybody has an opinion, but most expressed appreciation.  We used peel away, although it took several applications and then the final treatment was to use an off set grinder with a wire brush attachment.  This last part requires some skill and care, but in the end, all the paint was removed and the original cast iron was as shiney as nickel.  There were repairs that were needed, but bondo was the miracle substance.  Bondo can be carved while it is in its primary hardening phase, and then sanded when fully dry.  You cannot tell the areas were repaired and it has held up well.  Priming as soon as the paint was removed is important to prevent new rust.  We chose a flat oil based black paint.  There still is a little sheen in it.  A glossy paint will just show off the brush strokes or any imperfections.  I highly suggest not painting that way.  Our neighbors jealously ask us if we would work on their cast iron railings, but we offer to show them how instead.  We are so happy we took on the project ourselves.  Some friends joined in the fun.  Best of luck.
