Stange kitchen layout

​The kitchen layout of this small property looks a little strange to me. I was just wondering if it is okay to have a gas range at the very end of the kitchen. I’ve never seen this layout before, and would think that there should be some buffer if a boiling pot of water spills over. I’m with Dave – lazy, thoughtless and cheap renovation. What catches my eye more than the stove is the countertop was not measured correctly, and the reversible hinge on the fridge was not reversed!

It looks like there’s enough wall space there to add another cabinet and counter. Just looks like a cheap reno job.

My understanding is that there needs to be 6 inches of counter between the side of the stove and any wall – a previous renovation we did that came up and the architect shot it down. I don’t think you can just have the stove like that, for good reason.

I don’t know about building code, but it would drive me nuts not to have a place to put things down next to each side of the stove.
