Seeking kitchen designer (not architect)

Hi, I am looking for recommendations for a kitchen designer to remodel a Brooklyn kitchen. Looking to go somewhat high end, but it’s not a terribly complicated job (just replacing cabinets that are there now, keeping appliances, not a major rethink of the space) so I don’t think an architect is necessary.  Basically looking for someone with creative vision to work with us to lay out choices in materials and then ultimately create (beautiful) detailed plans that I’d give to my contractor to execute on.  If anyone has someone to recommend, please send suggestions!

Yes we do both the design and install. We mostly do custom cabinets so do not have a showroom as each project is very specific. We deal with many custom cabinet makers and semi-custom cabinet manufacturers. Depending on your needs and budget we can reccommend the route to head in. Picking the actual cabinetry is usually the easier part. Making sure the layout, design and utilization of the space is correct is what is more important. As mentioned some better cabinet places will provide you drawings once you place an order. It is highly advisable though to have your contractor check measurements before placing the order. Many of the so called kitchen designers in the cabinet showrooms have very little actual construction knowledge which can lead to cabinets being ordered that don’t properly match and utilize your space. Are you going with stock/semi-custom cabinets?  If so, not sure of the need for a separate kitchen designer, particularly if you are primarily just doing cabinets.  You can probably accomplish what you seek if you go to an established dealer of the high end “semi-custom” cabinet companies (i.e., Woodmode, Plain and Fancy), all of which will include design services.  There is a good Woodmode dealer in the D&D building in Manhattan.  If you are going the route of full custom, most custom cabinet shops also design kitchens — A few colleagues of mine have used Ideal Kitchens in NJ for NYC kitchens for design and supply of full custom cabinets.
