gut reno on a tight budget...

Hi B/stoners We are living in a 2 family frame house in kensington and want to do a big reno, we are living upstairs (it is a 2 fam) but have a very tight budget. We would like to rip down walls, pull up floors (refinish), redo the kitchen and bathroom all on the ground floor, also walls in the basement and take the floors down to the concrete. Yes I know it is a very long list, but we are new to this and are hoping to get a clue from the more experienced brownstoners out there.   Can anyone recommend a contractor or architect that has worked in a similar situation.   Thanks

I’ve used Doha from Luxury Construction for many years. He’s finishing my cellar right now. He is honest and his prices have always been surprisingly good. He can help you decide what tradeoffs to make regarding what to do now vs. later so you don’t create more work for yourself down the road. His number is 718-937-3642\. If you don’t get an architect you have to be prepared to make a lot of smaller decisions yourself re: layout and materials. It’s a fair bit of work.
