Cabinet Installer Recommendations

We have picked out the cabinets we like from Home Depot – one of the Martha Stewart lines sleek and moden  – and have opted for the plywood build rather than particle board.  We met with a home depot designer at the Manhattan store who has it all layed out with plans and such, but the only installer they are contracted with came out and gave a quote that we felt was almost double what it should be. Basically hanging 10 cabinets from the walls, and arranging 9 more base and island cabinets and securing them together and to the floor and/or walls –  just a dry install job as we are going to do backsplash and other currently unfinished walls ourselves and do some natural stone or silastone separately with a separate installer.  The people they sent out quoted $6000 just to install the cabinets. $1000 of that is for “cleanup,” and $700 for insurance and permits if needed – which aren’t since this is a single family house. Still, removing the $700 leaves $5300 just for install and “cleanup” which I think is way too high. Seriously how much cleanup can you need for pre-made cabinets in an 8 x 13 kitchen – if they are going to make a $1000 mess I’m not sure I want them installing my cabinets anyway. I am more than willing to vacuum and hang plastic and cover the flooring myself.  So we talked with the designer and he said lots of people use their own installers.  Does anyone who frequents here install cabinets or can recommend someone who does?  This should be a simple install – one we could actually do ourselves but thought we would just hire it done and save the trouble.  Thanks in advance for any ideas!

even a big ass Ikea kitchen (where installer has to spend time puttting them cabs together etc) in the show room display was quoted to be charging $1800.  that’s more work than just hanging pre-assembled cabs.  Maybe your backup plan should be call the BK Ikea store for their list of recommend installers and ask them to quote you.  have to assume they should be able to do it at or below the $1800 quoted on their in-store kitchen displays
