Buying kitchen cabinets

I agree with the run advice here. I don’t know if they are still in the kitchen cabinet business, but I bought two different sets of kitchen cabinets from Dyke’s in Manhattan several years back. They had high quality lines. I ended up going with Kraftmaid on one kitchen-very nice quality for the product. Dyke’s is an old company-completely reliable. You might try calling them.

 I am doing my first reno and am looking to purchase kitchen cabinets from a small company in Bklyn which has a limited but nice selection of wood cabinets. They want deposit of half before coming out to measure, with balance before delivery. They don’t install I’d need to have contractor or someone else to install. They don’t offer a written warranty but say they will cover any issues (“we’re not going anywhere – have done this thousands of times”). How does this sound to those of you who’ve done this before – do I need more of a guarantee?  What should I be careful or concerned about?

You’re kidding, right?  Half deposit before they even measure, and then balance before they are even delivered?  No guarantee?  Do they also sell used cars?  Run away fast.  Very fast.   Go to Home Depot, Lowes, Ikea, or something like that since you need your own installers anyway.  This entire scheme sounds like a scam to me.

Sounds like they don’t care about getting more business.  I used Park Slope Kitchen Gallery.  They measured for free but only let me see the plans in their office until they got money (entirely fair).  I had my contractor do the install and everything arrived.  Very satisfied.

Run fast. Something reasonable would be $200 for measurement (which would be credited towards job if you moved forward) half deposit upon final selections and fthe other half upon delivery

Avoid this business. Everything said above is right. Why not give a written warranty? If they don’t install they would blame them for anyproblems. Park Slope cabinets are very good quality and service. Lowes in Brooklyn is good, if I do a kitchen again soon I’d give the whole job. Home Depot in Brooklyn is a chaotic mess. I don’t know anything about Ikea but they are another big corporation they are definitely not going anywhere. Cabinet installation is complicated fine detail issues always come and and it takes skill and time and that costs.
