add a kitchen

I have a 3 story 2 family brownstone… 3 yrs ago I added a kitchenette to the 2nd floor for my son… not a rental, strictly for family use.  I was recently told this is illegal… is this true?   If it is what steps would it take to make it legal (costs) and what are the consequences if I am suddenly inspected??? yes, it’s illegal, but what do you care? the DOB does not do spontaneous spot checks. if they did, the entire borough would be in violation of SOMETHING.

1\.  Who told you it was illegal and under what basis?  Yes, if you added it without permits it may be a problem if you get inspected. 2\.  You don’t have to let inspectors in. 3\.  Does the added kitchen conform to the stated floorplan arrangement of the C of O?
