I need help designing a renovation.

I realize I need guidance concerning where to put things in my upcoming renovation. I am trying to put ideas together but I am somewhat stumped. Exactly where DO I put the closets LOL!!! If anyone can offer suggestions please let me know. I’m interesting in professional recommendations and things I can do on my own. The more I can do on my own before I talk to a professional, the better.

Start looking. Figure out what you like, what you don’t like. Look on Houzz. Subscribe to their feeds – they send lots of idea books on a weekly basis. Find architects whose aesthetic you like and look through their websites. Look in Pinterest – find folks whose boards you like and follow them. Look at sold and current listings on broker sites like Corcoran or Halstead – most will have floor plans. If you are looking for closet guidelines, they’ll give you some idea of what your options are. My husband and I had a blank slate before we renovated our house and it all came into focus after months of looking, pinning, sharing, discarding, confirming…with a blanket “how do I find ideas” question, you need to start honing in on the basics before you should begin worrying about closets. What is your overall style? What do you need your house to be for you? Do you need a home gym or 5 bedrooms? Do you need a 5 star kitchen? Garden? Entertain a lot? Don’t go into your first meetings with professionals without any preferences in mind. You will waste both time and money. Good luck!
