anyone insure a frame house in South Slope recently? We’re ready to close but having issues with insurance because we won’t be living there right away.  My husband is working with an agent at Summit on a Travelers policy but any other leads would be appreciated because it’s not a done deal yet.  THANKS!!

We’re in the same situation – in contract and planning to renovate before we move in (but not a frame house).  And having a difficult time – some brokers have said they can’t write us a policy because we won’t be living in the home and will be doing renovation, that we need some other kind of insurance.  But the bank wants homeowners insurance, and I sure don’t want to open up that can of worms with them before closing.  We did get one quote from Chubb, which was on the high end to begin with and would be a 50-60% surcharge during the period that we’re renovating.  So, I don’t have any great answers but am very interested in the responses!

When you see the name Traveler’s and it’s insurance-use anyone, but. They like to take your money, and then not cover you should anything go wrong. And should anything go wrong, you will have to take them to court and prepare yourself for quite a costly fight. Chubb is an excellent carrier, and while they may be more expensive, I have never yet heard a complaint. See if they can work with you.
