Home Insurance Recommendations for Gowanus House

I’ve seen plenty of posting regarding home insurance for brownstones in Brooklyn.  I am looking for home insurance for a house located in the teens between 3/4 avenue.  Any recommendations?

Call brownstone agency. At least half my clients use them for homeowner’s. They seem to get around the “too close to the water” excuse a lot of the other insurance companies use. -Adam Dahill WCS Lending

I just settled on Travelers. They quoted me an outrageous offer at first, but then I was able to get them down to something reasonable. Whomever you go with, make sure they do NOT charge you for things like “off-site theft liability”. Unless of course you want that sort of thing because you carry expensive equipment on your person, all day, every day. Good luck!

When I was looking for home owner’s ifnsurance a few months back, I went to the Homeowners Insurance Resource Center @ http://www.ins.state.ny.us/homeown/html/hmonguid.htm and downloaded the pdf. Near the end it has all the insurance prices offered by each company. I ended up going with Chubbs because they didn’t have a cap on the replacement cost, it included earthquake insurance, and based on the positive posts I read here on how they’ve handled claims. I bought the policy from J W Allen Co Inc.@ 212-227-6875.

We live in that area and were insured in January through State Farm.  I have been very unhappy with Alan Wheeler’s office, but have heard good things about the State Farm office in Park Slope (assuming they offer the same coverage)…
