Asbestos inspector

I am going to be doing some work in my basement, bringing in a independent fire sprinkler feed. To get the permits, I am told I will need an asbestos report (and I suppose abatement if there is asbestos — but given the dates of the last permitted work, my guess is there is none). Any suggestions on inspectors the community has had good experiences with? What should I be watching out for? Ballpark cost for a basement inspection? Thanks as always….

I forgot to mention, contractor’s name is listed in the permit itself, so how can PE get a permit and after that you will find contractor? It does not work this way.

PE can only do plans, expediter will bring paperwork to DOB, contractor is the one who is getting permit. Permit is the permission for the contractor to perform work described in the approved plans.

OP Here. Gennady: my PE is getting permits at which point I will hire someone with all the licenses to do the work. But before even applying for the DOB permit, I need an asbestos inspector to survey, sample, and issue the ACP5 (or abate as necessary). I haven’t gotten to the point of hiring the guys with the shovels or plumber yet. And thanks lasttotheparty and Arkady for your recs.

Are you a licensed fire suppression contractor or licensed plumber? If not, you must first to get a license in order to perform work on sprinkler system.

its a few hundred (400-500 typically) for a visit and filing the paperwork. the total price depends on the number of samples you need to be taken. could be a few hundred more to over a thousand dollars. Some tests are really expensive, others much cheaper. we used environmental management services – victor cheban. friendly and responsive guy. 718 614 8082
