Ductless Mini Split Advice

Hello, I’m considering installing a ductless mini split in my ground floor apartment and I’m wondering about the condenser that sits outside. Has anyone seen a nice way to obscure these? They are quite ugly and I’m not sure the coop will be happy with this if I don’t propose a way to cover it up. Also, are the condensers something that are the target of thieves if they are located on the ground level? I mean I’m sure they are but I’m guessing it would be pretty hard to just grab it and go. Finally, can anyone recommend a contractor for the job? I’ve had two come and give me estimates but I didn’t care for either company. Thanks for any help!

Any handyman can build a wood box to surround the unit. Be sure to follow specs or it may void your warranty, 18″ from the inlet side is typical. If the unit’s near a wall, just build a 3-sided box up to the wall. You need louvers or openings. On the exhaust side, I would cut a circular hole the size of the fan. This side can be quite close to the unit since there’s no airflow restriction. A side advantage is that it’s protected from direct sunlight.
