Ductless A/C recommendations for a brownstone - installers and brands

Can anyone please recommend a dealer/installer/contractor for installing ductless A/C in a brownstone? Also, does anyone have opinions about the best brands – unico, spacepak, etc.? How efficient, quiet (inside AND outside), etc. Thanks.

Tameer HVAC just installed our system without any problem. His bid was $750 more than the others, but he used Mitsubishi. (Other bidders wanted about $1000 more to use Mitsubishi instead of Fujitsu.) Keep in mind you will also need an electrician to install new circuits and make the connections. Also, you may need to patch and paint walls–how extensive will depend on where the line sets and drain lines have to go.

Beware getting service years down the road with some of the ductless brands. Sometimes installers go away and there is no one else to service units (or desire to service someone else’s install). Mitsubishi is generally recognized as the top brand, and other japanese are generally decent – Korean are not as time tested but tempting due to lower price. I personally priced Mitsubishi Mr Slim before deciding on forced air. The only issue i encountered was that all the dealers seemed to back away once i had one quote from one dealer – i was speculating if there is an unwritten rule and a lead generation system these guys use to not bid down each other. The one that quoted me was called Iceberg Mechanical. They seemed competent and thorough, but were not willing to negotiate price so i ended up mulling it over, and decided on central air instead. They have stellar angle’s list reviews but get a “B” for price, but in the HVAC world my experience is that you get what you pay for. Good luck!
