Wood vs Aluminum Clad Wood Windows
Trying to decide if I should go with wood or the aluminum clad wood windows. Price difference is not really meaningful, but the maintenance-free nature of the cladding is appealing. Wondering if anyone has some experience in both or has compared both. I understand the landmarks implications, but just for arguments sake if that was not a consideration, which one would be your choice?

Love the old building project! For wood vs. aluminum-clad wood windows, I’d pick aluminum-clad if price and landmarks aren’t issues. You get the cozy wood interior that matches your knotty pine vibe, but the cladding means zero exterior maintenance perfect for West Virginia’s wild weather. Bare wood looks classic but needs yearly TLC (painting, sealing), which can be a hassle for a guest space. Clad windows last longer, feel less drafty, and save you time. What’s your window count or style? Can help you pick some options.

It all depends on the type of the house, the design and operation of the window, and if the windows are visible from the street. I have got LPC windows approved in wood-clad. But again, we would need to look into these factors to see the best course of action. I have this company called Norwood, which has a 15-year warranty on painted wood windows.

Our Marvin coke cans with wood interiors have been great. I don’t think we can afford the certainly pricier brands and maintenance colonial would recommend but our red and white swirled/riveted Marvins (complete with propellers!) are pretty awesome years in.

Wood looks great and can be repaired, repainted, etc. I think aluminum might be best saved for coke cans and airplanes.

Aluminum clad wood is the best you can get.
You can also get euro tilt&turn triple pane that are faux double hung where only the bottom part is operable. This has been approved by landmarks. I’m not sure if it is appropriate to post links
