Window Aircon
I highly recommend these Midea brand U shaped units if anyone is in need of window AC.
Pros:
Extra light
Low noise with compressor placed outside of window
Window remains easily operable
Included bracket and foam install kit is slightly time consuming but is the best performing I have ever seen
Con:
Like most window units the air shoots forward instead of upward as did the seemingly no longer available Kapsul Air units

We have them too — it’s basically a mini split in a window ac package.

Maggie, are you asking about the window guards to keep children from falling out or security type window guards to keep people from breaking in? If it is about the security window guards, I have this AC (the 12k BTU version) installed in my apartment with window guards. It is supposed to be installed with it’s special bracket (although I’ve seen them used without the bracket), the way I did it was to set it up such that the bracket fell in between the bars on my window guards.
Also, a few other positives that Jeremy didn’t mention above is that this is a variable speed compressor AC, it has drastically cut my cooling costs. And in addition to the low noise, this AC and it’s lack of corrugated sides is much better at keeping outside air and dust from getting in to my apartment.

I have not seen these installed with window guards. I think the way to do it would be to go with short (3 bars) white window guards and install the bottom of them at the height of the top of the AC. This would still allow you to open the window if you install the guards on the rear/upper sash track

Have you ever seen these installed with window guards?
