What Needs Reform More: Rent Regulation or Property Taxes?

421-a reform. Cuomo’s latest plan gives abatements for 30 years. History of the tax bonuses have resulted in much less affordable housing than expected.

rent control is more than a little nuts, rent stabilization could work much better in theory but the system is totally F-ed up because its too political. The property tax system is ok but could use some help.

You are also asking the question to an audience focused on brownstone Brooklyn. Which have some of the most favorable tax rates in the city.

rent controlled = a little nuts. Rent stabilized = ok. Property tax reform is needed but I can’t imagine it will ever be possible. You’re asking homeowners, in general the most politically connected people, to pay more in taxes. People are greedy and shortsighted, especially when it comes to their taxes.
