What kind of shades for parlor floor front windows

We need to get something to give us a little privacy in the front of our house, but I don’t want to block the light or ruin the aesthetics of the big front windows. We also have moulding on those windows. What works best? An interior up down cellular type shade? I don’t love the way these look, but might be the best option? Where is a good place to get shades that won’t break the bank? Thanks!

We have a 10% roller shade from Smith and Noble and we love them. They give us privacy without sacrificing the light in our bedroom. We also have roman shades for actual light blocking purposes, but we often leave the roller shade down and it feels like natural light streaming in.

I’ve noticed some really tall landscaping in window boxes that does a great job giving privacy to those inside.

I have gone through every possible iteration in 37 years. Sheers, shutters, lace, cafe.
Thanks to NYCs switch to LED street lights I now have 2 layers, curtains that remain open unless overnight guests sleeping in there, plus wooden 2 in slat blinds. open, they let in tons of light, and can be pulled up all the way for maximum light. Hunter Douglas silhouette could be a good option. We looked into it for ours but at the time their top-down/bottom-up colors were pretty limited, and we really wanted that option. They may have better choices now. For the moment, though, we have Levolor top-down/bottom-up roman shades. They fully block the view when all the way up (which is what we want at night), but during daytime we usually just have them pulled down 2/3rds of the way from the top which allows a lot of light in but makes it harder to see in from the street. Several of our neighbors have actually asked what they are b/c they like them, so that makes me think they look good from the outside too 🙂 They mount right inside the window frame. We have top down, bottom-up cellular shades that we mounted inside the window. Our front faces north and the street, so we wanted to let light in and gain some privacy. During the day, we lower the top to head height, and at night raise them all the way. Our windows are very large, so the shades were not cheap by any means. We used an online retailer, Blindstogo, blindsdirect, or something like that, for the first purchase. but they dont do sizes that big anymore. Went to a well-known hardware store on Flatbush Avenue near 5th Avenue, for replacements (after 20 years or so), but would not patronize again for blinds again.

I bought sheer curtains at Ikea, had them tailored so that they only cover the lower half of the window (but are 50-100% wider than the window) and installed them with pressure rods (that are totally hidden in the curtain pocket). Gives me privacy without blocking the light and looks nice from the outside. We have double hung windows. I am not sure this would work well if you didn’t have double hung windows.
