Water trickling in to basement

With the flash flooding in Brooklyn we went down to check our basement and saw a small puddle formed by a spout of water coming in from the back wall (foundation of our home). Even though we are lucky our basement is not flooded and we’re not having gallons water there, I’m wondering if we should get someone to look at it to seal up holes etc so that our foundation is not eroded and this doesn’t become a bigger problem. Does anyone have any ideas on how to address? [AE0DE45A-876B-4339-A80B-A864E0737B6B](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s3/:brownstoner:0eYQ:ae0de45a876b4339a80ba864e0737b6b.jpeg.jpg)

I actually read your comment twice to really understand what concerns you. after the first read, i thought you were concerned that the water would damage the concrete and began to point out that even it you seal it up, it will still be outside pushing against it – at least in the big storms – and as JH points out, it will find other paths in. But on a second pass i realize you are worried that the force of the water running in through that hole will erode the concrete or whatever and make the hole larger. i doubt that amount of water occasionally occurring under low pressure and flowing over an edge of the concrete will damage it.

if this happen often and left pools, i would be more concerned about the humidity levels in the basement and what that might do to the moisture levels of the wood joists and to goods stored in the basement. but if this occurs only during these storms, i would not worry about it.

Sealing up the holes will be more effective if the source of the water has been established and dealt with, if not the water will find another way in not far from this location I’m afraid
