Water Remediation Expert for 100+ Year Old Concrete?
Like half of New York City, we are currently dealing with water in our basement. Our basement floor is the original concrete from when the house was built in 1907, so we are looking for someone who is familiar with older homes and working WITH them rather than someone who is going to come in and tell us to just start ripping things up and make it new. Anyone with a home of similar age have a recommendation?

Many people have deep concrete and rocks and pebbles. Very common.

The original concrete seems to go REALLY deep, and is a mix with larger “rocks”/pebbles than you see today. It’s not a sentimental or aesthetic issue, it just seems like it’s actually much sturdier and higher quality than you’d get today. (Similar to the horsehair plaster we still have.). Our next door neighbors that are attached are literally the same house – built as one structure at the same time by the same person – and they’ve had things mostly renovated while ours is mostly original, and seem to have way more problems than we do. Also the few spots in our house that were “renovated” by the previous owners are where we have had trouble over the past few years, so so our instinct is to try to keep the original materials as much as possible. Maybe we’re not right on that, but it’s why I want someone with the experience to guide us.

Is there anything noteworthy about the original concrete…?
