Water pressure

Hi – We are in the final stages of a gut renovation of our brownstone, including new plumbing, and are finding that the water pressure — more precisely, the tub fill rates — on the top two floors is not that great. We are getting fill rates of 2 to 2.5 GPM. I’ve been told that the NYC average is 4-5 GPM. Has anyone else experienced this issue and do you have any advice for how to address it? Thank you!

What kind of tub faucet? The flow restrictors in many faucets are integral to the cartridge and not removable, but the tub filler will have a published flow rate (often optimistic). If the installer did not flush the lines before installing a cartridge/thermostatic type faucet/filler, there is a screen on the cartridge body that often gets mucked up and is easily cleaned (pulling the cartridge is a reasonable task for a moderate DIYer). Is there a separate shower with adequate flow? Is the flow rate worsened if multiple tubs filling at the same time?

Thanks so much. I did that and the flow was still about the same. I’m also changing the cartridge in the diverted. My fear is that the plumbing may be underlining issue, but we are using half-inch pipes, which I understand should be fine
