Violation for railing on roof

Hello Everyone

Just got a surprise DOB visit and gave me a violation for a railing we put in on the roof of my brownstone. The exact wording was “Railing obstruction at roof where plans indicate 6′ aisle for fire dept”. I’m getting conflicting answers from the pros. Trying to reach DOB or FDNY not easy. Anyone knows what that means exactly? Should’ve asked but inspector was gone by the time I read through. Thanks. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

It was a random audit. I needed to clear it to get COA. Railings were in the drawings as is which is why everyone is scratching their heads now. Architect also says probably has to with the drawings not being clear. Oh well. Thanks.

Is the railing in the drawings?
Does the railing made the aisle clearance under 6 feet?
If not in drawings or lessen clearance, build doesn’t match drawings, hence the violation.

This is not helpful now, but why did you let the inspector in? Unless I needed a sign off from someone at the DOB, there is no way I would let them into my house just to nose around.
