Video intercom small 6 unit brownstone

Hi All….seems to be a popular question but with no real answers…..we currently have voice only intercom in our coop and some of the apartments are having issues.

We’d like to swap out for video and have new wiring and new video installed in each of the 6 apartments.

We have two door strikes and of course the main camera/entry panel outside. Because of the age of the wiring want a quote with new wiring throughout.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I installed a video intercom system in my three apartment row house in Park Slope a few months ago. The work was done by Lock and Tech on McDonald Avenue http://www.lockandtech.com/. They were able to tap into the existing buzzer system from each apartment so they didn’t have to run new wires, and the price tag still came to over $5000 for a exterior camera system (weatherproof) + video monitors in each apartment plus installation of new locks on the two entrance doors, etc.. Despite my sticker shock, I must say that they did a good job, and responded quickly when a small problem came up a month later. (Still in shock.)

aiphone are the the the usual go to for small commercial buildings, just get one of the higher end ones. A good locksmith can set up the whole system for you.

I have ‘aiphone’, they are modular. You can choose if you want video, keyless entry or 3 or 100 units

I’ve used Comelit intercom. Those look better than the typical multifamily variety.

Running wiring in the hallway is a non starter. UGLY plus how would they get the wire from the hallway to each of the apartments internally??

Nope, need a professional company who knows what they are doing and have the tools to fish the wire through existing chaseways.

If you are running new wiring probably the most economical way to do it would be to run a conduit or wire mold up through the stairwell and then branch into each apartment. Intercoms are generally close to the entry doors of apartments so you would minimize the damage in each apartment. Aiphone is a reputable company and makes a good product
