Varnish for Front Doors

to answer a question that came to me by email or text (from someone on this board):

I prefer these marine varnishes in this order:

Petit Flagship
Petit Captain’s
Epifanes
Interlux

Be aware that each of the above make and market interior varnishes and you must be careful not to order an interior product for exterior.

West Marine on 34st used to carry them but they have closed. the marina’s down off the belt carry Interlux. there is a West Marine in Port Wash and another in Long Beach. otherwise i order product from Jamestown Distributors and am very happy with them.

also, a note on Waterlox. Waterlox is another brand of varnish. it is recommended that it be used over their products only.

over coating (maintenance coats) is something i can cover in classes. i just showed saturday’s class how to repair damage on a floor by sanding lightly, tacking, sealing (and it will be up to me to coat again and then sand the floor and coat the entire to blend).
