Utility pole maintenance
I’m hoping someone on the forum can assist with how we would go about determining the owner of the utility pole in our rear yard. It’s somewhat degraded and construction is about to begin on the building at the rear which will expose it to the elements so we need someone to either repair or replace it. Can’t find any labels on it…Thanks, Susan

In reply to mozeeatupu, it costs a small fortune to bury cable. Some are, some are not.
On another note, if you see a pole with an “Osmose” coin affixed, it means nothing other than that they treat the pole from decay. If you pole has this, locate the company and ask who paid them.

I thought there’s no longer above ground electric wires.
All the wires in the poles behind me are cable and some phone

it is clear that the utility pole belongs to a utility. That being said, try to see where the line leads, and if it is electric or phone.
Call up customer service for each utility. Then follow up by a letter stating that the utility pole at such-and-such address is in danger of falling and doing damage to the surrounding property and that you are providing written notice of that condition.. Send both regular and certified mail. Keep a copy for yourself.
It will be slow going but you will be moving forward.

RRG

res2 – Could you report it – maybe to EPA or DoB- as a hazardous condition?

You can check on your title report to see if it notes which utility has the easement for it; but it is probably Verizon with Time Warner/Optimum etc sharing it as well.
That said good luck with getting anyone to listen to you on esthetic reasons to move, work on it. Even if it was falling down and a danger to people in the area, they will still take there time…. I recently had a pole on the edge of one of my properties that was completely full of termite holes etc. It took a week for someone to come out on an Emergency call to look at it, then they just served notice to all within 20′ of it to NOT use their gardens. It took almost 6 months for them to replace it… about the same time it takes the Public Service Commission to get them to do anything.
