Using Scored Tiles
Has anyone ever used a scored tile in their home renovation? . I have a sample of a 10” x 16” scored tile with 2.5” between each scored line that matches the upper cabinets I am installingz. So, it looks like four 2.5” x 16” inch tiles. I’m wondering if anyone has installed something like this before? Does the grout fill in the scores? Is that the idea? Can you tell that scored tiles were used instead of individual 2.5 x 16 inch tiles? We have tiles like this, but of a different genre. Ours are 12″ x 24″ inch tiles, I think from Porcelanosa, which are basically two roughly 6″x24″ “subway” tiles joined together. The entire purpose of the “scored” line is indeed to hold grout. There is a lip on the edge of the tiles so that when the tiles are set the grout lines are identical between adjacent tiles and the “scored” line. Your tiler grouts the whole wall as s/he would with any tile, including the “scored” lines. Once installed, they are simply an oversized subway tile (although ours also has some texture), except the grout lines are perfect.
