Update to old "Leak or condensation" post

All just an update to the old “Leak or condensation” post. After the snow storm last week I have seen the leak come back starting Sat afternoon. It is much worst than last time. So we cut open the panel so we can see which pipe was leaking. What we saw is the leak is coming from the electric box. Con Edison was working outside in Jan, Feb and part of March. They must have broke something. I called them on Sunday still have not heard anything back. There has been damage to my basement wooden stairs, concrete and walls. Does ConEdison pay for repairs to those items? I am mopping every other hour since there is no way to catch the water.

try this number 718-802-5299; I believe that’s who I ultimately got an appointment through. I recall having to chase several parts of con ed repeatedly but they did ultimately come and seemed to know how to address the issue.

is it coming out of the box where your electrical wires enter the house (service end/splice box?) we had a similar issue and it turns out the conduit carrying the wire from the street to the inside of our basement was taking water. if you call con-ed, they will seal the conduit on both the house end as well as on the street side (usually in the manhole.) in our case the conduits in the street are ancient and made of wood so the sealing on the inside of the house is really the only thing that will really help. if you explain to con-ed they will send someone from their “construction” department to deal with it.
