Under Stoop Brownstone Entrance Door Replacement

Does anyone have recs for a company or someone who replaces doors? This is just the entrance door under the stoop. I’ve tried reaching out to several places online, but nobody returns calls.

If you need an iron/metal door, call or text German (formerly of Armijos but he started Mack Iron Works.) He just made us a new one & it is great: 929-271-8405. It may take him a couple of days to get back to you (or a couple of texts.) If it’s not a metal door, LWP. They are replacing our regular steel door (& windows) & they are very reasonable (718) 492-7774. Let them know I referred you 🙂

You might try Rohan (347) 299-1127 of Hurikane Ironworks. He does all sorts of metal repair and installation for us for reasonable prices

and a few people have left me messages about these recently and i have not responded.

here is the issue with those doors: the ones that are there are obviously lower grade. they are also not sized so an off the shelf, modern door can go in there. this means you need to do one of two things:

have a custom door made which is going to be half a fortune for something that does not add curb appeal.

or close down the wood work around that door so to fit a modern door.

in rarer cases, that door is even shorter than our doors today and that means buying an off the shelf door and modifying it by shortening it and to do this professionally is pricey.

it is very rare that i work on this below the stoop doors and others might feel the same way: what we have to charge to work on a door that no one will see from the road is really not worth it. i mean i know you need a door, but i am not happy saying to a customer “yes, i know it is only a thinner door under the stoop but to make a custom one will be $5,000”. i can justify that in my own head for a main entry door, but not for one of these. the issue with this is, even if we make a cheaper door, the expense of our labor is still there. even to rebuild what is there, and i can do that, the price is not always justified.

i hate to have to tell you all of this but that is why no one is responding.

the shops i usually send people to are nate (south slope) or vaughan (heights) but i know them and their pricing.

you can try this: a firm in upstate NY – historic or vintage doors can make a custom door for like 2800 out of good wood. you might try them and get someone local to install.

i am not even marketing myself here. i will be happy if i hear you found a realistic way around this situation, that’s all.
