Tree guard
Looking for someone to install a tree guard for the nice tree & pit in front of our brownstone, for both aesthetics and to dissuade the degenerates that allow their dog to defecate and pee in the tree pit.
I heard there are a few go-to people, but didn’t get any details. Does anyone have a recommendation? FWIW I tried the “official” people at the parks dept, and after one back-and-forth, they’ve been totally unresponsive, so I give up on them.

I just found out that our local Council Member (District 40 – Rita Joseph) has obtained funding for hundreds of tree guards in her district. It might be worth checking whether there;s anything similar in your neighborhood. I think I’ve mentioned previously that years ago my block received many tree guards funded by the Borough President’s Office.

I just had one done through the Parks Dept and it looks great – you make a donation so there are also tax benefits! The person I worked with was Vernon Zoeckler, Tree Time – Project Implementation Manager, T: 929.481.2491, E: vernon.zoeckler@parks.nyc.gov

Try this: https://www.urbangardennyc.com/2022/11/07/tree-guards/
The only catch is they take forever.

You need an iron worker like Vinnie’s Italian Art Ironworks on Bergen St in Cobble Hill. There to be so many of these small outfits in Gowanus but many have closed up in recent years. By the way, the tree guard won’t stop dogs. I’ve seen dog owners not only lead their pups to my tree pit to do their business but actually lift them over the fence. Today’s dog owners believe it takes the village. They just never asked the village what they thought.
