Total cost/sf to add rear extension on landmarked UWS townhouse?

Does anyone have a ballpark total cost/sf (including cost of hiring architects, contractors, etc.) to add a 2-story rear extension to a landmarked UWS townhouse? And how long the whole process, including approval time, might take? TIA

We generally estimate construction costs at about $350 per sq ft for new construction. Like bored at work said, that could vary significantly with complexity and scope. Architecture and engineering fees could be anywhere from 10% to 50% of the construction budget, again depending upon complexity and amount of work. Design fees tend to be a smaller % of larger projects because of economies of scale.

I would suggest calling architects and discussing the project in detail to get a better idea of actual costs.

The range is essentially infinite for both time and cost.

Without significantly more detail, there is no way to answer. Width and height of extension? Materials for rear facade? Underpinning required, etc, etc, etc. Search for some discussions on this thread and go from there.
