Tips on shutting down a steam heat system in a multifamily for the season?

I usually just set the thermostat to OFF, but is there anything else I should be doing– I’ve heard some people say ” flip the emergency switch on the boiler” and some advice to drain some of the brown water out before shutting it down.

Any tips from the pros?
Talking about a single steam heat system in a multifamily building.

Master plvmber is, in my book, the last word on everything to do with boilers and steam radiator systems. That said, I must sheepishly admit that I just turn the thermostat off.

You have done all you need to do…if the thermostat is not callong for heat, the boiler will remain inactive
