Temporary basement ceiling options?

Dear Brooklyn sages,

Our basement ceiling (made of plaster, seemingly original?) has been chipping off for a while, and letting off dust slowly but constantly onto our stored belongings. About 1/3 of the ceiling remains, 2/3 is just exposed beams, some pipes, etc.

We would like a temporary ceiling option that is low cost, low labor, minimal complication. A full reno can come in a couple of years. The rest of the space is fine for use for storage (mostly concrete floor, etc.). Does anyone have any advice about how to do this?

Buy a roll of white, 3ml plastic sheeting and use a staple gun and have at it.

If we are talking about something that would last only 2-3 years, what do you think about the THICK sheets of plastic held up by nailed up 2x4s? Primative, but very low effort. Thanks!

Sheet rock is probably best bet. Even easier and less permanent is the dreaded drop ceiling with acoustic tile.
