surveyors?
neighbor next door at my attached home had surveyors surveying for over an hour yesterday while i was at work. they seemed to be interested in fences, which seems kind of ridiculous but have definitely had weird interactions with this neighbor before so who knows. is there a pretty basic simple reason why someone would have surveyors at their place for so long? wouldnt imagine a normal sale would require this right, but perhaps an addition?

There are many reasons someone might want an updated survey done.
A complete new survey, rather than just an inspection (checking an existing survey) Can take more than an hour to get all the measurements , angles, encroachments noted etc.
Reasons: They do not have one! If they have owned the property for a while or did not get one when they bought the house….
They are concerned that their neighbor put up fences in the wrong place?
Planning a building project of their own?
There are many reasons to get a Survey, everyone should have one in my opinion.

A survey isn’t a 15 min job. If they were there over an hour, it’s only cause it took them that long to properly survey the whole property. Or the workers just weren’t in any rush.

So usually if a house is on the market, we know this and the surveyor arrives while the house is still in contract, before the closing. Is the house in contract? If not, i might think something else is going on. People do not generally get surveys when they are thinking about selling.
