Stray cats

My neighbor has been feeding stray cats in his backyard, next to me. It was ok for a year but now, it’s become a huge issue. There are more than 6 cats and they are very non friendly and territorial. They would hiss at me when they are on my side of property. They would climb on top of my car and use underneath as sheltered consistently. They would poop everywhere, even my front porch which now reeks of poop whenever I open my front door. Puke and poop scattered at my backyard. Now, I have nothing against cats but this is driving me nuts.

Has anyone been in such situation? I can’t do anything to my neighbor since it’s legal to feed stray cats. Are there any solution to this?

You may also want to contact an organization that does “trap, neuter, release.” Unfortunately, this may require cooperation, whether from you, your neighbor, etc. The idea is that if the whole colony is neutered, the females won;t go into heat, the males won’t go crazy yowling all night, and you won’t have successive generations. The colony will be docile and slowly die out.

I have used a device just like EJR mentioned (the one I used is called “scare crow,” but they are basically the same). It works extremely well, but you do have to bring it in when it freezes. It doesn’t do the cats any harm, but it does clear your yard. The one trick is to position it so that the sprinkler does not spray your neighbors’ yards. They are not particularly designed for the city and actually have a long reach. Pointing it so that the fence blocks the spray works pretty well.

I have feral cats in my backyard as well.
