Stair Runners

We’re looking to add stair runners for our brownstone to help our pets get up and down the stairs. This would likely include two flights of stairs and the hallway connecting the two. Has anyone had this work done and/or received quotes? Would also be interested in any recommendations. We spoke with one provider in Brooklyn and were given a quote of about $4500 for one of the cheaper fabric options, which seemed pretty high. Our lower flight of stairs does flair out at the bottom, which I would expect to cost a bit more… but this still seemed beyond what I was expecting.

we originally went to carpet warehouse on atlantic ave & was quoted close to $5,000 for one staircase & $1,500 for basement stairs. someone recommended richie in bay ridge – he had the same carpet runner – the entire job was under $3,000. they were fantastic, super nice, family run. highly recommend! ABC Carpet frequently has very attractive w2w carpet on sale and they’ll come install it as a stair runner for you for seemingly not that much money. As well there are any number of flooring places on corners in Brooklyn that will install really inexpensive nylon carpet (which is the most durable). Also there is my favorite, Family Heirloom Weavers, in Pennsylvania, if you want something historic.

The first pic in the “how to” article looks pretty bad but if you scroll down she shows you how to do the install where the carpet “wraps” the bullnose — looks much nicer IMHO

This is easy-peasy DIY stuff — we have same dog issue and got some very decent looking runners for our home online and installed NP for less than 1/10th of that, for one hallway and one stair.

But frankly, if you’re looking at custom runners made and installed for you, 4500 sounds about right – downright reasonable, actually.

Have you looked at Better Carpet Warehouse? Had a great install last year. Three flights, not expensive but nice runner, three brownstone floors, about 3K.
