Stair Runner
We would like to get a runner for our rickety wooden staircase. We are looking for something very neutral and natural looking, that will minimize slips. Is there a type of material you would recommend? Good Brooklyn source where we can find these? We have a GC (currently in a major reno). Does it make sense to just ask the GC to install it or to use a carpet store? Thanks!

i just googled these the other night and it turns out that Raymore and Flannagan has these on line. about $250 for an 8′ run. the contractor can probably do it so long as he has a staple gun; they have to be pushed tight at all of the bends between the tread and riser and under the nose of the tread and stapled. if he has not done it before, the carpet installer would be able to do it with his eyes closed. We have used Better Carpet Warehouse three separate times (Atlantic near 3rd Ave.) for our stair runners. Besides ordering stair runners, you can choose from carpet remnants as well. Wade and his crew are very easy to work with, and prices are great. IMHO I would only use a carpet installer to avoid any issues.

I bought one online and was very pleased with it. Good prices. Installation isn’t difficult. Measure twice according to their directions and then add another 2-3′ to be sure. I may have gooten it at stairrunnerstore.com but there are other places. Maybe rugman.com too
