Speaking of cocklofts... insulation question?
We had to open up a 12×6 section of our top floor ceiling.
There is a 4’ space between the ceiling and the underside of the roof.
The space up there has blown in insulation but that section of the insulation fell down when that section of ceiling came down.
If we want to add insulation back to that section as we replace the ceiling, is it better to staple it up between the joists or just try to roll out the pink stuff on top of the new ceiling as we put the drywall ceiling back up?
The blown in insulation just sits on the top of the rest of the ceiling so i figured rolling out pink stuff on top of the new ceiling section would be most comparable since there isn’t any insulation between joists right under roof- any thoughts?
Better to insulate between joists or on right top of ceiling?

Blown in to fill in the missing portion, than add another layer to everything. It’s going to be difficult to get roll or batt insulation in and without leaving gaps.
Lowes rents the machines and has the blown in insulation if you want to DIY, otherwise you can hit the web and find a local company that will do it.
