Smoking synthetic weed in the tree pit...

We’ve been having a real problem with people sitting/gathering in two tree pits in front of my house and smoking synthetic weed. Synthetic weed aka Spice or K2 is this really noxious substance that creates an awful smell and totally zombifies the user. In short it’s become a safety hazard for my family and neighbors. I’ve contact my local police precinct, and 311 to no avail. I’m considering installing studs on the iron fences that contain the tree pits to discourage people for sitting there. So I have a few questions: Has anybody here modified city installed tree pits? Are there laws or ordinances against modifying city installed tree pits. Does anybody have good recommendations for an iron worker who could install said studs. Thanks so much!

Yes there is a standard = www.nycgovparks.org/permits/trees/standards.pdf

This said i can recommend Lopopolo Iron Works, we used them to fabricate our coops tree guards.

hmmm….. something in the tree pit that would make it unsavory to linger there. traditional loitering solutions have been 1) ridiculously bright / blinding security lights, or 2) playing really annoying music (classical, barry manilow etc). Maybe lining the pit with stink bombs that go off when someone steps in there? Spikes on the tree pit grate? Some unbashful people put rows and columns of string etc across when they don’t want dogs to jump in there. All the above?

On the weed topic — I have been smelling a lot of what seems sort of like skunk weed on our block. is that the synthetic stuff or just mild skunk weed. Either way, i wish people would take it elsewhere.

There are laws governing what’s built around a tree pit but they’re usually only enforced if someone makes a complaint. If you want to risk modifying yours, any iron working company can do it.
