Slide bolts for rear window guards
Would someone who has traditional rear window guards be willing to share a picture of their slide bolts? My GC took mine down when installing windows and discarded them. I would like to replace them. I have spoken to iron workers but none of them can show me a picture of work they’ve done. I’d prefer to show them an example to copy. Thanks in advance

Thank you Steve. This is very helpful and would be my next step. I am trying to figure out what traditional ones look like. I seem to only have a few low res photos of the original and it’s hard to see the details.

jane, i deal with a lot of slide bolts (usually removing simple steel ones and installing nice brass ones). if you post a pic of the guard where it closes, i might be able to suggest a bolt. there is a lot of hardware store stuff out there and to tell you the truth, a lot of these i have seen on the iron gates are shop fabricated by the maker. that does not mean a hardware store item cannot be welded on. our favorite big box store has these in all sizes.
the other thing to do with weldable mild steel is, take two 1/8″ thick steel plates measuring say 1.5×1.5″ and weld them on line up with one another – on on the fixed part of the guard and one right next to it on the active part- and drill a 1/2″ hole in these and put a pad lock through there. i have seen this a lot.
i am not offering to install or make any of the above.
