Slate Sidewalks, Liability Problems?

Hello fellow brownstoners. We need to replace our sidewalk and have a ton of slate. We are thinking of doing the sidewalk in. slate/bluestone and were wondering if anyone has had any liability problems with them? Slipping in winter, etc? Please, we would value your input on this.

The DOT will issue a fine for removing concrete and replacing with bluestone without filign for a distinctive sidewalk permit. You can’t use small pieces, they have to be 2 foot x 3 foot minimum size, 2″ or greater thickness. They have no issue doing the opposite, going from bluestone to concrete, however if you live in a landmarked district, then the LPC will issue a violation for removing bluestone without a Landmarks filing.

Try WP Bluestone in The Bronx. They did a neighbor’s long corner sidewalk. Beautiful job.
