Site Safety Super Requirements

Can anyone confirm that the DOB can require a SSS for a one-family or two-family project? I have heard different things. My project is an expansion and includes and digging out an existing basement and finishing it. Not sure if these details matter. Thank you! Also, if you are using a SSS, can you share how much it is costing per month? Thank you!
