single window replacement?

had my houses windows replaced with the exception of one. have since reassessed doing anything to structurally change the house and add a window, so no longer interested in waiting to have that one window replaced. this is obviously a much smaller job and it seems like my old installer is not interested. is this something to go to a gc on or should I stick to window specialists?

Windows are either operable (can open) or fixed (can’t be opened). There is at least one sash — a sheet of glass and a framework of vertical stiles and horizontal rails — in a window. A pane is a single sheet of glass framed in a window. Glazing can refer to either the glass in a window or the process of securing the glass into the framework. The window frame consists of the head, jamb, side jamb and sill.

@resident2: the problem with this kind of thing is it is not really in a carpenter’s wheelhouse. if i did not work for a window installer in the 1980’s, i would have no idea how to do this because even generalists do not do replacement windows and i work on doors now and do not consider it to be part of that kind of work. maybe years ago they did, before the modern replacements came out, but since then it is its own thing. there also are not that many free lance carpenter’s running around. it has to be a guy doing this on the side and the op will want to order the window and have it sitting there when the installer arrives.

i will not do this any more because it is too much running around for one window. also, i do not have a metal brake if outside trim is needed. but you should be able to find someone – a small independent person. i used to do them if i was doing something larger for a customer. you will want someone who has done them before as well. the best thing might be to try to find someone who works for an installer and does his own side work.
