Sidewalk violation - incorrect owner

I’ve received the 2nd notice for a sidewalk violation on a property that is not mine. When I got the first notice, I did as 311 said and sent a letter to the Dept of Finance saying it wasn’t my property.

Today, I spoke to a DOF rep who said it wasn’t my name on the property so they don’t know why the violation is in my name, then told me to call DOT. The guy from DOT told me he doesn’t know why my name is on the violation and to just ignore all future notices.

He said any action taken by the city would only affect the property owner and not to worry if that’s not me. I suppose any bills for repair or a lien would only be tied to the building? This still seems shady to me- my name and correct address are still on the violation as the owner. Should I really not worry about it??

Check what DOF has on its records because most other agencies get their owner info from DOF.

Perhaps you should also contact the Public Advocate’s office and your City Council member

Ugh, thanks- that’s exactly what I was afraid of. Looks like I’ll have to try again with the DOT

Unfortunately it seems humans cannot correct the computers they have taken over. No human wants their ID on making the change.
It does matter; I have had this issue with a building I have never owned etc. It often comes up on deep credit searches & title searches etc. It means then signing affidavits etc each time, that it is not me…
